#Checkseason

Known as much for his crazy diamond-encrusted grill as for his music, Paul Wall is a veteran Houston rapper who's been around since the late '90s. He got his start with legendary local label Swishahouse, working extensively with a young Chamillionaire (they were known as The Color Changin' Click), putting out lots of mixtapes and independent CDs, and being a legit star in Texas. In 2005, he finally crashed through to the mainstream after a show-stealing verse on Mike Jones' breakout single "Still Tippin'." Shortly thereafter, his first major-label album, The People's Champ, topped the charts, and Paul Wall (and H-Town hip-hop in general) was everywhere. Since then, Wall's star has dimmed somewhat; the masses have moved on to Auto-Tuned R&B and Euro-flavored emo. But he's still doing his thing. #Checkseason is his first solo album since 2010's Heart of a Champion. It sticks squarely to the same formula he's always rocked: rhyming exclusively about big rims, drank in the cup, and piles of cash, all over gigantic bass drops and ride-ready beats.
