California Fade (Bonus Version)

California Fade (Bonus Version)

After her group, That Dog, disbanded in the late ‘90s, Anna Waronker spent a decade doing session work, writing film and TV soundtracks, and starting a label. Her first solo album, Anna/i>, was released back in 2002, so in many ways California Fade/i> is a comeback album and a confident return to form for this talented singer/songwriter. Written, co-produced, and largely performed by Waronker, with help from a crew of veteran L.A. musicians, this highly personal album contains smartly crafted pop songs with arrangements that feature lush layers of piano, cello, violin, and guitars. Her mature and introspective lyrics focus on growing older, relationship complexities, and staying true to oneself during trying times. Whether tender and melancholy (“How Am I Doing?,” “Cannibals & Quicksand”), poignant (“Beautiful Life,” the title track), or cathartic (“Spinning Out”) these emotional songs convey deep feelings in an honest and understated way. In examining her own life she has created a work that is both personal and easily relatable.
