Cabinet of Curiosities

Cabinet of Curiosities

The Pop Group were everything but pop. Among the first groups to put the “post” in postpunk, they were militant left-wing radicals from Bristol, England, who rallied against everything. More importantly, they ventured far beyond the sounds of conventional pop and punk music. There were no reheated Chuck Berry riffs here; instead there were atonal jazz confrontations, aggressive funk, and guitars that did unexpected things. Cabinet of Curiosities is a 2014 collection of rarities not found on their previous odds 'n' sods collection We Are Time. The 1978 John Peel session of “We Are Time” sounds relatively pleasant after years of bands expanding on this attack.
