Black Laden Crown sounds as if it were forged in a dank basement concealing a dark gateway to hell. To achieve darkness, the band tap the satanic blues-metal of their early years; the title track is a classic dungeon dirge with torturous riffs, and the old-school rocker “Devil on Hwy 9” roars like a muscle car painted with flames. With his deep wail as chilling as ever, Glenn Danzig is a man consumed by evil on the weary “Blackness Falls.”
