Big Wave More Fire DJDS
EDITORS’ NOTES
Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy know how to balance R&B hooks and classic house with next-level sound design—one reason Kanye tapped them for The Life of Pablo. On their third album, the LA-based duo formerly known as DJ Dodger Stadium spin those fusions into their most expansive work yet. On “Why Don’t You Come On,” they sculpt silvery future-house around call-and-response vocals from Khalid and Empress Of; “I Heard,” a two-part journey into trap-laced R&B and piano balladry, makes the most of The-Dream, Vory, and Kacy Hill’s contrasting vocal textures. The wistful “Trees on Fire” is the surest proof of their talents: Braiding Amber Mark’s and Marco McKinnis’ close harmonies over punchy organ bass, it’s both a late-night club jam and a perfect pop song.
