Back to the Basics - EP

Debuting in 1992 with Runnin' Off at da Mouth (under the name Tung Twista), the Guinness Book record-holder for World's Fastest Rapper broke through with his appearance on Do or Die's single "Po Pimp." Twista then put out two more albums and started the crew Speedknot Mobstaz and his own label Legit Ballin, but he was still mostly popular in his native Chicago and throughout the Midwest. Everything changed in 2004, when he dropped Kamikaze—it topped the charts and sold double-platinum, thanks to huge hits like "Slow Jamz" and "So Sexy." Twista's been busy since then, working with everybody from Raekwon and No ID to Lady Gaga and Diddy, but he's never quite matched the gigantic success of that album. This seven-song EP lives up to its title: no gimmicks, no big-name costars, just raw beats and tight rhymes galore. Twenty-plus years in the game, and Twista still sounds better than cats half his age. "Ferocious," "Beast," and "Swagga Like a Doughboy" are highlights.
