1998’s RFTC is a full-fledged embrace of roots rock from a band that had always been proud of their love for early rock ’n’ roll and R&B. Backed by a beefed-up horn section, “Eye on You,” “Lipstick,” and “Dick on a Dog” use the life-force of ‘60s garage punk and frat rock anthems. Meanwhile, “Let’s Get Busy” and “You Gotta Move” are bumptious funk workouts that few other alternative rock bands could pull off. A party album through and through, RTFC nonetheless finds ways to sneak discordant elements into its stew of new and old, punk and pop, indie and mainstream.
