Toiling alone on a laptop in a Glasgow bedroom, formally-trained composer Christopher Duncan has meticulously melded the old and the new on this debut album–a staggeringly accomplished folk-pop tapestry of synthesised modern effects and classic choral arrangement. “He Believes In Miracles” is a mesmerizing sunburst of brushed drums and golden-throated layered harmonies, “Garden” reconfigures pastoral rebirth as a dancefloor-ready banger, and final track “I’ll Be Gone By Winter” conjures the snowblown festive sadness of an alternative Christmas classic. Architecture this grand is rarely so enjoyable.
