On his Apple Music Home Session, Tom Odell revisits his debut single, “Another Love,” which introduced the British singer-songwriter to the world in 2012. During the intervening years, he’s found that it’s a ballad that has evolved with the experiences of his fans. “It’s been crazy to watch it mean so many different things to so many different people,” he tells Apple Music. “It seems to metamorphosize as each year passes. I’m like a proud parent, I watch on with very little control or influence now, just with pride.” This stripped-down rendition perfectly chimes with the soulful minimalism of Odell’s fifth album, Best Day of My Life. Rerecorded as part of this session, the title track has quickly become an emotional centerpiece of Odell’s live shows. “It’s great to sing that song,” he says. “People sing it really loudly at the top of their voices back to me when I play it live. Hearing people sing ‘I think today is the best day of my life’ is really beautiful. It’s a wonderful thing to witness.” Another thing he believes is wonderful is Celeste’s 2019 single “Strange”—given a stirring cover here. “I think it’s a masterpiece,” says Odell. “The words are so beautiful and it was a joy to learn and perform.”
