Apple Music Home Session: The Crane - Single

“When I record at home, the biggest difference is myself,” The Crane—Taiyu Lin—tells Apple Music. “What mood am I in today? How do I feel physically? If anything feels off, I can just start over.” The Taipei-based producer and singer-songwriter brings that sense of self to his Apple Music Home Session, which intentionally captures that intimate, personal atmosphere: “My house isn’t soundproofed. So when I recorded this Home Session, outside noises, footsteps, and room sounds were different to the noises surrounding the studio, so there’s a huge difference in ambient texture.” To mark Lunar New Year, Lin reworked a pair of his alt-R&B tracks to illustrate the two sides of every relationship. “Winter is the perfect time for snuggling. As long as it’s with someone you like, you don’t mind doing it anywhere,” he says, invoking the name of his song “Don’t Mind.” “And ‘PRINCESS’ talks about a standoff when neither side wants to give in. It’s childish anger, the friction that’s in every relationship. Sometimes you’re so focused that you forget that things have changed. Sometimes you’re so angry that you simply put things off. But the relationship is still there. It’s better to make up and spend the next holiday together.” In the Year of the Rabbit, Lin aspires to put out a concept album, collaborate with Joanna Wang, perform on a huge stage and bulk up: “I hope to gain six kilos of muscle and buy some new equipment.”
