Vancouver singer-songwriter JESSIA knows her way to the heart of a great tune. “It really shows if it's a good song or not if you can just play it acoustically and it still has an impact,” she tells Apple Music. To wit, for her Home Session EP, she recorded an impassioned, pared-down cover of 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Youngblood,” cutting right to its melodic essentials. She also remade her own track “I’m not Pretty”—a minimalist pop bop that took off earlier this year—in much the same way, her guitar's downstroke accents now providing the track's rhythmic momentum. “I was so excited to do these home sessions as I have been writing my EP this entire year,” she says. “That has been a lot of building songs to be as big and present as possible. It's been an incredible process, but these sessions have been refreshing because we could strip everything back. I definitely want to incorporate some stripped-down songs into my live show, because there is something truly special about those bare moments.”
