Anywhere In Texas

This Austin, Texan taught himself how to play a Chris LeDoux song on a secondhand guitar before taking lessons, and soon the songwriting bug had laid its eggs in his young brain. He was discovered by KVET radio personnel who played his demo on the air while Park was still in high school. Anywhere In Texas is his second studio album, and though the title suggests gritty red-dirt twang, there’s a little of that commercial radio-friendly polish mixed in as well. The short intro to “Don’t Look” even echoes some early Radiohead guitar clamor before Park’s smiling tenor comes in crooning a catchy melody that gets even more infectious by the time the chorus rolls around. The country rocking “Cold In Colorado” recalls Rick Roberts-era Flying Burrito Brothers crossed with a modern twang-pop sensibility, while the mellow “Day By Day” is a standout with its impassioned lyrics and traditional instrumentation. Those craving a near perfect love song should check out the romantic “Tossin’ and Turnin’,” a heartfelt ditty steeped in rich Telecaster tones punctuated by Park’s winsome voice.
