Adios, I’m a Ghost is bookended by brief instrumentals laced with ethereal harmonies. In between are 10 soulful songs that work as a cohesive whole thanks to seamless transitions in tempo and feel. They artfully shift moods without leaving listeners behind. The energetic rocker “Red Eye” segues smoothly into the three-part harmony showcase “Annie Turn Out the Lights,” while the haunting ballad “Pride” dissolves into the dynamic and driving “A Lot to Give” and the jangly gems “Midnight Owl” and “Stop Signs.” Now a quintet with guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards, The Moondoggies have made a third album that falls neatly between their previous releases, splitting the difference between melodic indie rock and roots rock.
