A Girl from Harare

A Girl from Harare

Despite being born in South Africa, emotive singer-songwriter Gemma Griffiths spent most of her formative years in Zimbabwe, and as a result, her musicality is deeply embedded within the fibers of the country’s tapestry. Her EP A Girl From Harare comes as the yin to EP Pamwe’s yang—the second release of a two-part musical journey that saw Griffiths write and record while traveling 24,000 kilometers over 500 days and across 10 African countries. Through delicate rhythms coupled with introspective lyrics, Griffiths details the finds of her journey, paying homage to a place in Kenya where she felt the most at home (“Kwale”) and detailing the bustling streets and fluorescent night lights of Dar es Salaam (“City Life”) as well as coming into her own (“Raspberry”).
