Boroko Keng

Boroko Keng

Loosely translated as “what’s sleep?” Boroko Keng displays the progression of Mellow & Sleazy’s bacardi-tinged amapiano, marking the duo as part of the genre’s exciting congregation of emerging voices and producers. What ensues are synth-laden, melodic, and high-octane sonic companions to the proclivities of Pitori’s twentysomethings. The EP is ribbon-cut by a pair of bangers characterized by fellow Pretorian Focalistic’s work ethic and bravado. For its part, “Chom’yam”—which tucks the popular “people are burning” catchphrase into its bassy framework—is graced by Leemckrazy, Dinho, and TheBuu, who layer catchy flows between fluits (stylized whistles) and syncopated shakers. Prior to the acidic “Netflix,” the DJ Hunrose-aided “Anna Benette (Remix)” adds some electronic bounce to a famous township nursery rhyme. On the atmospheric closer “Imnandi lento,” Tman Xpress layers blissful tones over crisp snares, lending the offering a spiritual touch.
