Jeanick Fournier is a late bloomer with a big heart. The former palliative care attendant and mother of two from Chicoutimi, Quebec, shot to fame by winning the first season of Canada’s Got Talent in 2022. She released her self-titled major-label debut album that fall, featuring covers of her hero Céline Dion’s “I Surrender,” Cyndi Lauper’s “All Through the Night,” and songs by Faith Hill and Laurence Jalbert. She returns here with a more personal statement: a cathartic mix of dance tracks and ballads written about her experiences by collaborators such as Ariane Brunet (aka L’Isle), Caracol, Josh Alexander, and Frédérick Baron. She sings about shaking up her world on “Dérange-moi,” a rousing disco anthem complete with swirling strings, a funky bassline, and Fournier unleashing her powerhouse voice in the song’s climax. “Quand le rideau tombe” and “Je les mène pour toi” are touching hymns to her children, with the singer accompanied by piano and country-tinged guitars, respectively. The album’s propulsive title track finds her reflecting on her unlikely rise to stardom and finally finding her time to shine.
