In late 2021, country singer Jameson Rodgers returned to his home state’s historic Lyric Oxford theater with plenty of fresh experience touring his wildly successful debut record, Bet You’re from a Small Town, under his belt. Seeking to recreate the kind of impact that live shows by artists like Eric Church had on him, Rodgers put together a stunner of a set. It starts intimate and stripped-back with the wistful “Bars Back Home,” but from there, it could be mistaken for an arena gig. Rodgers aims for the rafters on goliath tracks like “Girls That Smoke” and “Cold Beer Calling My Name”; he puts more than a little heartland rock muscle into the heartbroken “Missing One.” He ends with “Some Girls,” the rousing song that started his wild rise, with the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs.
