To date, SAFE’s most well-regarded work might be the backing vocals he has on “What It Feels Like” from Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album, credited to JAY-Z and Nipsey Hussle. He’s in great company there to be sure, but with his Get Home SAFE (Part 1) EP, the Toronto-hailing singer and MC begins calling for his own spotlight. Over the course of the project’s seven songs, SAFE sings about his family (“Take Me Home”), his friends (“Day Ones”), and his love interests (“By My Side,” “Price of Love,” “Feeling Lucky”). Topically, it’s all par for the course for a burgeoning R&B talent, but as he admits on “Yonge Street,” named for the Ontario thruway, “Once I get inside, I’ma get it right.”
