The Okavango Delta at night

“The sounds are not dissimilar to a squeaky wheelbarrow that saturates the night soundscape,” says Martyn Stewart. “The sounds of frogs are also heard through the night like tiny glass balls on a Christmas tree. This is a recording I made at the edge of the delta. It’s a place of sanctuary for many animals and at times full of all critters making their noises. I loved the peace and tranquility of this recording; everyone had gone off to find a tree or a place of safety to replenish themselves for the next day. Listen here to the melody of insects and try not to sleep to it.” Here the audio naturalist takes listeners to the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and sets the stage for the evening insect chorus.
