De Falla: The Three-Cornered Hat & Nights in the Gardens of Spain

De Falla: The Three-Cornered Hat & Nights in the Gardens of Spain

The Orchestra of the Americas, which draws its young membership from more than 25 countries in the Western Hemisphere, plays with a zest and spirit that is utterly compelling. Given that many of the musicians speak Spanish, it’s no surprise that they play Spanish music with a very special feeling. The Three-Cornered Hat suite’s intoxicating rhythms are meat and drink for these young players, and they play terrifically. The sultry Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Falla’s piano concerto in all but name, falls to veteran Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio, who’s in top form, aided by Carlos Miguel Prieto’s energizing direction.
