Test (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The romantic tale of two young dancers enduring the darkest days of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, Test won top honors at the 2013 Outfest. “When director Chris Johnson and I started discussing the music for Test, we concluded that since the film was set in 1985, it would be cool to create a score directly inspired by '80s music,” explains young Welsh composer Ceiri Torjussen (Big Ass Spider, The Canal). The composer’s synth-based score not only echoes the time period and ‘80s pop tracks used in the film, “but also addresses the emotional turmoil that the characters were going through when confronted with the new and terrifying AIDS virus,” Torjussen says. He checklists his key period influences: Brian Eno, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, Tangerine Dream, Giorgio Moroder. “I gained a whole new appreciation for '80s synth music,” the composer says, “both in its amazing melodic power and the production value of this unique era in pop history.”
