Adiós

Adiós

Girl Ultra's diaphanous 2017 debut, Boys, put a chilled-out spin on the R&B moodiness of modern divas like Kelela and SZA. Rippling with aqueous keyboards, reverb-softened guitars, and electro-tinted rhythms, this mini album is likewise front-loaded with sensuous midtempo bops ("Duele") and vaporous slow jams ("Abril"). But while much of Adiós once again sways to a languorous pulse drawn from '80s quiet storm and '90s neo-soul, the gently bumping climax finds the Mexican singer unexpectedly conjuring pop bliss from disco's mellow bounce ("Lejos") and new jack swing's punchy groove ("Bye Bye").
