

The Soviet Union may have missed out on much of the ‘60s musical revolution, but the heart of rock 'n' roll beats on in Russian star Sergey Trofimov. A chorister from an early age, he can do classic chanson with the best of them, full of light-hearted rhythms and bandoneon melodies. But as this playlist shows, Trofimov soars when he infuses his songs with a more rebellious sonic spirit. Alluding to the likes of Deep Purple and The Beatles, he powers his songs with searing hard rock solos and steely pop hooks.
