Sometimes it takes three Australians to make a great American road-trip album. The sound of the open road is there in The Waifs' spacious acoustic sound, with well-placed harmonica and dobro. And it's in the natural twang of sisters Vikki and Donna Simpson's harmonies. "Fisherman's Daughter" sounds like a long-lost country single, complete with reference to a 1962 Valiant. In "Three Down" they roll through Austin and hit 6th Street for cocktails, making it sound like a fine way to pass a sleepless night.
