Silence Wang: Charge Up the New Year

Apple Music

For Silence Wang, 2024 was an amped-up year. After kicking things off with a performance on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the singer rolled out a series of high-energy singles and toured ahead of the release of an electrifying new album, One Hundred Thousand Volts. On his playlist for the Year of the Snake, Wang shares his power source. “The songs featured here are none other than the ones I love listening to in my daily life,” he tells Apple Music. “I hope they’ll give listeners positive energy too.” Wang recharges using a wide range of present day genres, from J-pop (Vaundy’s hit “Odoriko”) and chamber pop (JANNABI’s “For Lovers Who Hesitate”) to folk rock (wachi’s “The River”), hip-hop (KnowKnow’s duet with Shunzi, “Fragile”) and indie (DOUDOU’s everyday epic “南三环东路” [“South Third Ring East Road”])—with the occasional throwback pick, like The Beatles’ psychedelic classic “Strawberry Fields Forever”. For Wang, the holidays hum with an energy that makes them stand out from the rest of the year. “When I’m eating and watching TV with my family every day, all of a sudden time feels incredibly organised—even if we do stay up all night,” he says. Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, he encourages listeners to aim high: “May you be happy, healthy and full of energy in the new year—and have the courage to do the things you want.”
