Beyond his biggest hits, Jamaica's “Cool Ruler” Gregory Isaacs still enchanted hearts and dance halls alike in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Who else could sound as seductive crooning about financial woes as Isaacs does on the exquisite “Loving Pauper”? But he could also voice resentment, as he does on the gurgling groove of “Going Downtown”, while “Universal Tribulation” finds him wailing in defiance and determination.
