You can’t tell the story of the past two decades of R&B without Raphael Saadiq. The Grammy-winning producer co-founded Tony! Toni! Toné! before collaborating with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Lady Gaga, and so many others. "On my time away from my own music, I need to find a home, and these particular songs and artists don’t stunt my growth, they make me want to create my next chapter,” he says about the playlist he curated for Black Music Month, largely highlighting up-and-coming stars like Ari Lennox, Steve Lacy, and KAYTRANADA, alongside masters like Eddie Kendricks and Earth, Wind & Fire. "I feel like all of these artists figured it out, without making you want to sound like them, or be like them, but it moves me forward in my process."
