About Volker Goetze

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. As a teenager I spend hours composing and improvising my own little pieces on piano. Music was all round me as my parents played multiple instruments: cello, trombone, piano and guitar. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Collin Walcott, Don Cherry, Naná Vasconcelos, Codona John Coltrane, Ballads (Deluxe Edition) Miles Davis, Bitches Brew These albums are my ultimo favorites. Where can you hear Elvin Jones on brushes? Nana Vasconcelos has a voice and an aura much the same as Elvin Jones. Miles double album was playing all day long me playing along or painting all night. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Wa Sant Yalla (feat. Alejandro Moreno)” I love unforeseen collaborations: an upbeat West African Song featuring the African Harp rhythmically interlocking with flamenco guitar, leading into a "picado" style solo, glued with a flugelhorn solo quoting African melodies and Indian scales. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Sharing the healing power of music live all over the world and understanding that your contributions are much greater than yourself touching so many hearts profoundly creates countless blessed moments. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Creating a Mbalax album mixing Senegalese percussion tradition with African Harp and Mande Music featuring a horn section. A flamenco duo album. Now studying Sri Lankan Percussion for a new Jazz album. Never ending ideas to learn, grow and share.
