About The Fentones

Jerry Wilcox (b. 1940; lead guitar), Mickey Eyre (b. 1942; rhythm guitar), William Walter Edward ‘Bonney’ Oliver (bass) and Tony Hinchcliffe (b. 1940; drums) provided the backing to singer Shane Fenton. They became a popular attraction in their own right, recording several instrumental singles, including ‘The Mexican’ and ‘The Breeze And I’, both of which reached the UK Top 50 in 1962. Briefly touted as possible rivals to the Shadows, such aspirations proved over-ambitious and in keeping with many pre-beat contemporaries, the Fentones were later eclipsed by the Beatles and the new generation following in their wake.
