About DJ Rupture
Pithily characterizing his work as “a strike against geography,” New York-based producer DJ /rupture (Jace Clayton), seeks to abolish the boundaries separating disparate musical styles and scenes by mashing-together and amplifying the resulting cultural dissonances. In difference to the smoothed and seamless topology of the classic DJ mix, Clayton is known for genre-defying three-deck pile-ups that deftly combine ragga, hip-hop, noise, modern classical, and global music ephemera into discordant, breakbeat-fueled mayhem. GOLD TEETH THIEF, a private-press CD-R and internet download, was a surprise underground hit in 2001, and was followed up by the even more successful Tigerbeat6-released mix, MINESWEEPER SUITE (2002). A full-length production debut followed in 2004 (SPECIAL GUNPOWDER) to a chorus of critical plaudits. In addition to his solo projects, Clayton is part of the musical group Nettle, runs his own Soot Records label, and has become a respected voice in the blogosphere through his website, “Mudd Up!”
