About The Cataracs
Hip-hop production duo The Cataracs made their mark in the 2000s with memorable party bangers like Far East Movement’s 2010 chart-topper “Like a G6”. • David Benjamin Singer-Vine and Niles Hollowell-Dhar met while attending Berkeley High School in California. They began making music together as a duo in 2003. • The name The Cataracs comes from a lyric in Snoop Dogg's 2000 song “What’s My Name Pt. 2”. • The Cataracs enjoyed local success with their 2005 single “Blueberry Afghani”, an example of the Bay Area hip-hop variant known as “hyphy”. They released their debut album, Technohop Vol. 1, in 2006. • They scored another local hit with the 2008 single “Baby Baby”, later featured in an episode of the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians. • The Cataracs are best known for producing Far East Movement’s 2010 smash “Like a G6”, featuring Dev. The single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went quadruple platinum in the US. • In 2010, they collaborated with Snoop Dogg on the song “Wet”, the lead single off the rapper’s Doggumentary album. • Singer-Vine decided to leave the group in 2012—he eventually formed the pop duo Terror Jr. Niles continued working as The Cataracs before transitioning into his EDM moniker KSHMR.
