With bubbly electro-pop flutters and bittersweet themes, Neko Highway are crafting a brand of quirky Mandopop. The trio are whimsically unorthodox in their creative approach—Kaye (vocals), Sandy (keyboards) and Claire (bass)—refusing to be boxed into a single genre and utilising indie-rock riffs and smooth funk rhythms in turn. Named for a practice spot near Singapore’s Nicoll Highway as well as a shared love of cats, NEKO Highway are following the footprints of alternative icons Waa Wei and Zhang Xuan and painting bold sonic pictures.
