Essential Albums
- Andrew Lloyd Webber's sumptuously melodic "music of the night" kicks off with a gothic synthesiser flourish for the soundtrack to Joel Schumacher's 2004 film. Starring Gerard Butler in the title role and a teenaged Emmy Rossum as Christine, The Phantom is an old-fashioned musical at heart, with sweeping romantic balladry ("All I Ask of You") and a sophisticated comedy piece ("Prima Donna"). Webber's keen pop sensibility is in full effect during Minnie Driver's credits number, "Learn to Be Lonely".
