“Glass”—the opening track here—is a horizon-broadening statement, serving notice of the Londoners’ significant progression. That it breathes life into the band’s soundtrack for a video game (Life is Strange: Before the Storm) rather than a third LP also underlines Daughter’s consistency. This is no phoned-in, between-albums obligation. Instead, it’s a thoughtful body of work true to its tortured source material. Across 13 tracks the band toggle between their two exquisite settings: gossamer light and haunting (“Hope,” “All I Wanted”) and powerful and vengeful (“Burn It Down,” “Flaws”).
