Sverdlovsk—modern-day Yekaterinburg—was a breeding ground for groundbreaking musical creativity in the latter half of the twentieth century. Its industrial setting inspired much of Russia’s up-and-coming rock acts in the ‘80s. Diverse outfits such as Nautilus Pompilius, Agatha Christie and Chaif produced synth-friendly jams, antic cabaret jazz and everything in between.
