This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Find fan favourites you already love next to breakout stars and emerging voices. Topping the list this week is Zach Top with “South of Sanity”, a fan-favourite cut off his recently released album Ain’t in It for My Health. A searching ballad about the lonely side of touring, “South of Sanity” is one of the album’s more tender moments, showing a gentler side to Top’s celebrated voice. Top tells Apple Music the track is partially inspired by a real-life incident when he received a phone call with bad news just before he had to step onstage to perform. “I was going out and I’m trying not to bawl my eyes out,” he says. “Then it’s like, ‘Put your phone back in your pocket, take a drag on a cigarette and let’s go sing.’” Check back here early and often for updates, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
