Having met on the English open-mic circuit, Jack Sedman and Harry Draper write with necessary efficiency: melodies straightforward enough to be plucked on a lone guitar but sharp enough to pierce barroom chatter. With the benefit of studio time, they’ve polished their songs of love, yearning and despair into arena-friendly pop-rock, most effectively on the inflamed “Be There”. Nevertheless, “To the Sea” a gorgeous two-hander with Irish singer-songwriter Rosie Carney, is a reminder of how powerful restraint and intimacy can be.
