Yundi continues with his already formidable oeuvre of recorded Chopin, which includes the nocturnes, preludes, scherzi, impromptus, and more. Yundi’s interpretation of the Ballade No. 2 in F Major is thoughtful and balanced, evincing his awareness and delicate presentation of the layers of the music. In the Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, for example, he approaches the texture from the standpoint of bringing out the melody, which becomes clear and light, hovering above the other voices. This record is creatively sequenced, using the floating, dreamlike Berceuse as a transition between the ballades and the Op. 17 mazurkas.
