About Debora Waldman
In 2020, Debora Waldman became the first-ever female conductor of one of France's nationally supported regional orchestras when she stepped onto the podium of the Orchestre National Avignon-Provence. Waldman was trained largely in Argentina, graduating in conducting and composition, and went on for further training in France. Waldman was assistant to Kurt Masur at the Orchestre National de France. She made her recording debut in 2017 on an album of music by Richard Dubugnon. She rediscovered the Symphony in C sharp minor ("Grande Guerre") written in 1917 by Charlotte Sohy, wrote a book about it (La symphonie oubliée), and conducted its world premiere in 2019. She has guest conducted orchestras in France and beyond. Waldman was featured on the 2022 release Charlotte Sohy: Compositrice de la Belle Époque on the new La Boîte à Pépites label, devoted to the revival of works by forgotten female composers.
