Opening with the thundering one-two punch of “Sidewinder” and “Bottom Dollar”, the fifth album from Los Angeles progressive metalcore troupe Volumes kicks off hard. The churning polyrhythms and nu-metal grooves set the stage for the smooth, radio-ready single “Bad Habit”. Vocalists Michael Barr and Myke Terry split clean and harsh vocal duties throughout, hitting peak bliss on “California”, a realist tribute to their home state. The band shows their softer side on “Adrenaline” and “Worth It”, but the djent riffs return full force on “Stitch” and album closer “Suffer On”, which features a guest appearance from fellow Cali metalcore crew Black Sheep Wall.
