Manchester-based producer Andy Stott is known for his cavernous, seductive blend of downtempo, trip-hop, industrial and post-punk—think warm music for late nights in cold places. Stripping out the reverb and effects of albums like Luxury Problems and Faith in Strangers, Late Loop is, in some ways, an attempt to reach the same emotional destination by a different sonic road, layering dry, in-your-ear female voices over lo-fi drum machines, pump organs and other naked, humble sounds. (If Stott’s early music was an empty club, Late Loop is a chilly basement.) “Sunday fast” (feat. Alison Skidmore) is a highlight, as is “Mirror signal” (feat. Elaine Howley).
