About Chris Potter
American jazz saxophonist Chris Potter is a bandleader, composer, arranger, soloist, and first-call sideman. His full, bright, throaty tone weds sophisticated lyricism to driven exploration in straight-ahead jazz, post-bop, modal music, and vanguard jazz-funk. 1994's Concentric Circles was his acclaimed bandleader debut. Two breakthrough albums appeared from Verve in 2001's Gratitude and 2002's Traveling Mercies. 2006's Underground is one of his most celebrated albums. Follow the Red Line: Live at the Village Vanguard appeared in 2007; 2009's Ultrahang charted. In 2013, The Sirens appeared from ECM, followed by Imaginary Cities (2015) and The Dreamer Is the Dream (2017). Potter signed with Edition Records and in 2019 showcased his electro-acoustic quartet on Circuits. In 2020, he recorded There Is a Tide completely solo. He repurposed the Circuits quartet as a trio for 2021's Sunrise Reprise, and in 2023 released Got the Keys to the Kingdom: Live at the Village Vanguard.
