Sid Diamond, aka Young Sid, is a member of celebrated rap trio Smashproof but has also forged a parallel successful solo career since the release of his first album, 2007's The Truth, when he was only 21. Growing up in the gang-infested streets of Auckland's Manukau district—his father was the leader of the area's most notorious motorcycle gang—Sid's tough posturing and confronting urban observations are the result of personal experience rather than a put-on wanna-be gangsta attitude. His flow style and realism has seen him often compared to 50 Cent. Sid's second solo album, 2010's What Doesn't Kill Me, was a local chart success, featuring a guest appearance from pop star Stan Walker.
