Uncle Waffles: Music That Moves Me

Lungelihle Zwane, aka Uncle Waffles, is known for her fresh amapiano sound but the South African DJ’s Music That Moves Me playlist is a far more eclectic affair. “I think the concept of music is so beautiful so I give everything a chance,” she tells Apple Music. “I listen to most of this music on shuffle, usually when I’m doing functional strength training. It just sets the tone for anything you are about to do. It’s like your own score in real-life moments.” Zwane’s personal score includes bangers from ROSALÍA, Doechii and Kendrick Lamar, as well as some of her own heart-pumping material. There are, she says, specific tracks that galvanise her energy, like King Von’s “Took Her to the O”, which “usually gives me that extra push to do one more set of a workout I hate”, or “Last Kick” by Distruction Boyz: “[It] gets me going while doing the StairMaster, which is one of my favourite machines to use.” And when the workout is over she turns to throwback anthems like Beyoncé’s “***Flawless” or the Justin Bieber and Chance The Rapper collaboration “Confident” in order to “wind down after a day of closing all the rings on Apple Fitness”.
