Jeriq Essentials

Just 15 years old when he first stepped into a recording studio, the pursuit of success has only seen Jeriq build on his precocious talent as a rapper, earning him a position at the forefront of Nigeria’s music scene. Following the release of the Hood Boy Dreams EP in 2020, the spotlight swung around to illuminate Jeriq and has followed him ever since, leading to further recognition from both audiences and his fellow artists—including the legendary Phyno, who joined the up-and-coming hip-hop star on a sleek remix of “Remember”. The Ea$t N We$t EP, released in 2021, saw Jeriq—who intersperses Igbo with snatches of English—join forces with Yoruba-speaking artist Dremo for a bold union of styles and sounds that transcended a deep historical divide between the two nations. Debut album Billion Dollar Dream set the pace for 2022, with the boom-bap of the title track and the relentless trap-flavoured momentum of “My Bro”—another Phyno collaboration—drawing in new fans of Jeriq’s distinctive low growl and swaggering determination. His latest release, “Joy”, contains all the dynamic energy found throughout his prolific discography, infused with the invigorating rhythm of traditional Eastern Nigerian gyrations. “Joy” caps off Jeriq’s triumphant 2023—boosted by guest spots on tracks from esteemed acts like Blaqbonez, Erigga and DJ Neptune—leading into a thrilling next phase of his promising career.
