The gritty, grungy, garage-rock sounds conquering the States and England were embraced enthusiastically by young Peru. Groups like Los Saicos, Los Holy's, Los York's, and other apostrophe-abusing outfits cranked up their fuzz boxes, tortured wah-wah pedals, and delivered hard psych rock and surf rock with tough, taut, pre-punk energy.
