One of the most popular stand-up comics of the '70s, Steve Martin achieved stardom (and an Emmy) as a writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. He struck out on his own soon after, earning huge acclaim with his zany absurdist humour that involved well-chosen props and his trusty banjo. Martin's standup albums, like A Wild and Crazy Guy, which netted him a GRAMMY® in '78, and his frequent appearances on The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live, only added to his fame. His success on stage led to his lengthy career as a film and TV actor.
