Steel Pulse: Next Steps

Steel Pulse seem to pull from an almost unending reservoir of roots-reggae rhythms. The 12-inch version of "Ku Klux Klan", their razor-sharp debut single, rotates through a handful of them, building into a psychedelic swirl of distorted guitar and loose percussion. "Brown Eyed Girl", a lighter cut, finds new joy in Van Morrison's rock standard, its giddy horns accentuated by an electronic breakdown.
