One of the world's most revered singers of Indian classical music, the flamboyant Pandit Bhimsen Joshi sang with great relish and complete abandon. The most celebrated exponent of the Kirana gharana was renowned as a master of the khayal, a genre of vocal concert music, which emphasises fluidity of melody. The late Pandit's mastery was legendary, but he also drew freely from India's many other vocal styles.
