Japanese singer/songwriter Ryujin Kiyoshi weaves furious riffs through achingly earnest melodies, turning from fierce pop-rock to tender acoustic folk and occasionally pairing brassy horns with playful piano runs to thrilling effect. He first burst into the mainstream in '09 when his debut single, "Morning Sun", was featured in a TV commercial and enchanted audiences with its emotive melody and plaintive tones. But Kiyoshi's subsequent work remains equally evocative even as he delves into the offbeat and experimental—like with "Can You Speak Japanese?" and the brooding "Bokuwa Lolita Complex".
